Geronimo Fernandez

Geronimo Fernandez, a biochemist and molecular biologist, earned his Licenciatura de Ciencias Quimicas degree with a specialization in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. He completed his thesis on studying the interaction of intercalating compounds, potentially used as antitumor agents, with DNA. Fernandez went on to complete his postdoctoral education at the immunology department at Hospital Gregorio Marañón, where he acquired knowledge of immunology and HIV. This experience allowed him to develop his own projects while working in multidisciplinary teams with various backgrounds.

Fernandez has since embarked on a successful career in biotechnology, holding roles such as director técnico y responsable de proyecto at Aptus Biotech, investigador senior at Nlife Therapeutics, and investigador senior at Dendrico Sl. He has contributed to the development of synthetic molecules, dendrimers, as drug delivery vehicles and nucleic acids transporters. At N-Life Therapeutics, Fernandez worked on developing siRNAs for use in treating neurodegenerative diseases. In his current position, he leads the selection of aptamers for use in therapy. He also teaches biochemistry and molecular genetics in Biotecnología and Farmacia undergraduate programs at Universidad Europea de Madrid.

Fernandez's experience has taught him to find therapeutic applications for basic research, perform scientific and bibliographic research, and collaborate with research groups to seek solutions for therapeutic or diagnostic problems.
