George Abualzulof
Senior Human Rights Advisor to the UN Country Team at UN OHCHR
George Abualzulof is a prominent Human Rights defender with a rich background in International Human Rights and Humanitarian Law, boasting over 20 years of experience in the field.
Throughout his career, George Abualzulof has held significant positions with reputable organizations such as UNICEF and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).
He served as a country representative for OHCHR in Yemen and later managed the regional UN Human Rights Training and Documentation center for the Arab Region and South West Asia from Qatar.
Notably, Mr. Abualzulof spent a decade as the General Director of Defence for Children International / Palestine Section and worked as a justice for children specialist for UNICEF in Yemen, providing valuable technical assistance to various partners in the region.
His expertise extends to the development of child rights monitoring mechanisms, reviewing child rights legislation, and preparing country reports on children's rights issues.
A prolific writer, George Abualzulof has authored numerous research papers and articles focusing on critical topics such as children deprived of liberty, Juvenile Death Penalty (JDP), and the torture of children in the MENA region.
Furthermore, Mr. Abualzulof is recognized for his role in various international events and organizations, including representing MENA CSO's at the UN General Assembly Special Session on Children and serving on the Steering Committee of the Coalition to Stop the Use of Child Soldiers.
He currently holds a Council membership at the World Organization Against Torture (OMCT) in Geneva, Switzerland.
George Abualzulof's academic background includes a Master's degree in Children's Rights from the University of Freiburg and the Institute of Children's Rights in Sion, Switzerland.
