Garry Gold
Garry E. Gold, M.D., is a distinguished clinical radiologist and researcher at Stanford University.12 He earned his M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford in 1988 and his medical degree from Stanford University School of Medicine in 1992.12 Dr. Gold completed his radiology residency at Stanford, including a two-year NCI Cancer Imaging Fellowship, followed by an Osteoradiology Fellowship at the University of California, San Diego.12
Dr. Gold's career at Stanford has been marked by steady progression and notable achievements:
- Joined Stanford's Department of Radiology as an Assistant Professor in 200012
- Became an Associate Professor with tenure in 200612
- Promoted to Professor of Radiology and, by courtesy, Bioengineering and Orthopaedic Surgery in 201212
- Appointed Associate Chair for Research in Radiology in 201212
- Became Vice Chair for Research and Organization in the Department in 201712

Dr. Gold is renowned for his research in osteoarthritis and translational MRI development.12 His work has resulted in over 200 peer-reviewed articles and eight successful patent applications.12 He has held leadership positions in professional societies, including Past President of the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) and the Society for Computer Body Tomography and Magnetic Resonance (SCBT/MR).12

As of October 1, 2024, Dr. Gold will be stepping down from his role as Chair of the Department of Radiology.45 He will continue his research activities and lead a new Center for Imaging in Human Performance in the coming years.4
