    Gabriel Rucker

    Gabriel Rucker is an American chef and co-owner of Le Pigeon and Canard in Portland, Oregon.468 He also co-owns Little Bird Bistro.1 Rucker is a two-time James Beard Award winner.1579 He won the Rising Star Chef award in 2011 and Best Chef Northwest in 2013.126 In 2007, Food & Wine Magazine named him one of the country’s Best New Chefs.24

    Rucker's first cookbook, Le Pigeon: Cooking at the Dirty Bird, was released in 2013.16 Tom Colicchio wrote the foreword for the cookbook, which features 150 recipes that combine wild and refined cooking styles.1

    Rucker was raised in Napa, California.4 He wasn't a good student and was suspended several times for drinking.7 He realized he wasn't good at math but was good at cooking.67 Rucker's first experience with food was at a bagel shop in his hometown.2 He attended cooking school for a year but dropped out after he got a job at Silverado Country Club.2 In 2003, he moved to Oregon and got a job at Paley's Place in Portland.2 He then became the sous chef at Gotham Building Tavern.12 In June 2006, Rucker opened Le Pigeon.12 In 2018, he opened Canard next door to Le Pigeon.4

    Rucker is an advocate for sobriety.7 In 2019, he helped found the Portland chapter of Ben's Friends, a restaurant industry support group.67
