Furyal Mahmood is a licensed, certified genetic counselor with a Bachelor of Arts in Cell/Cellular and Molecular Biology from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Master of Science in Genetic Counseling/Counselor from California State University, Stanislaus. With a lifelong passion for genetics and education, Furyal focuses on bridging these fields with public health advocacy work to better serve minority and underserved populations.
Furyal has held several internship positions, including Prenatal Genetics, Cardiovascular Genetics, Pediatric Genetics, and Cancer Genetics at reputable institutions such as UCSF Medical Center and Kaiser Permanente. Additionally, Furyal has also served as a Sexual Assault and Rape Crisis Counselor at Bay Area Women Against Rape, an Athletic Study Center Tutor, an Event Planner, and an Undergraduate Student Instructor at UC Berkeley.
Currently, Furyal works as a Genetic Counselor at Kaiser Permanente, utilizing her skills and expertise to meet the healthcare needs of diverse communities. As a lifelong genetic counseling advocate, Furyal welcomes messages from prospective students and those interested in the field.
