Francis X. Suarez is the 43rd and current mayor of Miami, Florida, having been elected in 2017 and re-elected in 2021.5 He previously served as a Miami City Commissioner from 2009 to 2017.5
In addition to his political career, Suarez is an attorney and has been Of Counsel at the law firm Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, LLP since 2021.123 He joined the firm when they opened their Miami office, which Suarez helped attract to the city.23 Suarez has over 13 years of experience in real estate and corporate finance.1
Suarez holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Finance from Florida International University and a Juris Doctor degree, cum laude, from the University of Florida Levin College of Law.145 He is admitted to practice law in Florida.1
Outside of his legal and political work, Suarez has been recognized as a leader, including being ranked #20 on Fortune Magazine's "World's 50 Greatest Leaders 2021" list and being named a "Leader" on the TIME 100 Next List in 2019.14 He was also elected to serve as the President of the U.S. Conference of Mayors for the 2022-2023 term.14
In June 2023, Suarez launched a campaign to run for the Republican nomination for President of the United States.56 However, he withdrew from the race after failing to qualify for the first primary debate.5
