Phill Branch is a talented Moth GrandSlam Champion and an acclaimed filmmaker. He received the Theater Solo Performance Award from the Maryland State Arts Council in 2019. Branch studied at the American Film Institute, where he earned his MFA in Screenwriting. He also has a Bachelor's degree in Mass Media Arts from Hampton University. Currently, Branch is producing and hosting a storytelling podcast called "Isolation Be Like," which focuses on identity and culture. He received a Rubys Artist Grant in 2019, which is a program of the Robert W. Deutsch Foundation. Moreover, he is a Visiting Professor at Goucher College, where he teaches communication and media studies. Previously, he served as a professor at Hampton and Howard universities. His professional experience includes stints as a columnist at Written Magazine, a faculty member at the United States Naval Academy, a teaching artist at Capitol Hill Arts Workshop, a lecturer at Howard University, and an assistant professor of English and Cinema Studies at Hampton University. In addition, Branch directed the HBO award-winning documentary "Searching for Shaniqua," about the impact of names on people's lives. His skills and interests revolve around filmmaking, storytelling, podcasting, race and ethnicity in media, and teaching.
