Michael Kao is a seasoned investment professional with over 25 years of experience in various markets and asset classes, including commodities, credit, convertible, capital structure, event arbitrage, and distressed debt/equity investing. He began his career at J. Aron/Goldman Sachs in NYC, trading over 25 different commodity markets and their derivatives. After obtaining his MBA in Finance at The Wharton School, he joined Canyon Partners, where he co-founded and managed the Canyon Arbitrage Fund. In 2002, he founded his own investment firm, Akanthos Capital Management, which he ran for almost 17 years before closing it to outside investors in 2018. Since then, he invests primarily for his family office and enjoys blogging about the markets and the economy. Kao holds a BS in Electrical Engineering/Computer Science from UC, Berkeley and an MBA in Finance from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
