Ioannis Tomkos, an experienced researcher and academic leader, has an extensive background in managing PPP Research & Innovation projects with a focus on 5G mobile networks, FTTH, and backbone datacenter interconnection networks. As a C-level consultant, he offers advice on technology trends and business planning while also serving as an ICT policy-making adviser on topics relating to 5G and broadband network strategies.

With over 20 years of experience, Tomkos has led teams on numerous EU-funded projects with a consortium-wide leading role. He has raised over 9M€ in funding, making him one of the top performers in terms of attraction of funding within the EU. Tomkos has served as a member of the Photonics21 PPP and the 5G-PPP/5G-IA.

Tomkos is a Fellow of the IET, OSA, and IEEE, and has co-authored over 650 journal articles and conference proceedings papers, including more than 400 entries at IEEE Xplore. He has participated and chaired many conferences in telecommunications/networking, serving as chairman of the Optical Communications Group at OSA and the Optical Networking Technical Committee of IEEE Communications Society.

He has been awarded for pioneering and innovative contributions to the deployment of next-generation access networks in Greece. His published work has received over 10,000 citations (h-index=48 with m-index=2.526) and is included in the "Top H-Index" list of scientists working in the fields of computer science and electronics.

Tomkos holds an M.Sc. in Telecommunications and a Ph.D. in Optical Communication Systems and Networks from Ethnikon kai Kapodistriakon Panepistimion Athinon, a B.Sc. in Applied Physics, Electronics from the University of Patras, and has completed advanced training in project management and negotiation & crisis management at Corning Professional Education/Training and Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government, respectively.
