Sustainability and innovation focused professional

Internship focused on hands-on learning about social and environmental impact measurement through quantitative methods. Most time was spent reframing and developing a model used to process primary social and environmental data and outcome analysis. True pricing and living wage gap were two concepts in which I gained a deep understanding. Here I was able to put sustainability academic knowledge into practice. I was also the co-author of the report: De echte prijs van appels.

Consultancy project as part of my Masters in Sustainable Business and Innovation. Understanding value created for farmers and the company through the creation of the Knowledge Transfer Program offered to farmers to improve their techniques and skills with a focus on the social side of sustainability. Fieldwork was done in Khon Kaen, Bangkok and Chiang Mai through direct interviews with farmers and employees. Interesting results came from this work which helped the company plan the next steps of the program.Interestingly I got the opportunity to meet the founder of East West Seed, Simon N. Groot, who was the winner of The World Food Prize in 2019.

Consultant - Knowledge Transfer Department

Part of the research team of two projects (environmental side of sustainability):1) The Global FinPrint project, a global effort to study sharks and rays and,2) An ongoing monitoring of the coral reefs as a way to scientifically demonstrate its degradation and pressure the government to make it a marine protected area. I was one of the scientific divers collecting daily data, and nights were spent processing and analysing this data.

A successful project that has the objective of clearing the Municipality of Cascais from single-use plastic, through education, agreements with restaurants, and active participation of all citizens. The project focused on the social and environmental sides of sustainability.

This project started in September of 2013 as I was introduced to the children shelter in Tercena. I took the initiative to join my surf teaching experience with the needs of these children and start teaching surfing to a group from the shelter every Sunday morning. In order to get this project going I searched for a volunteer surf school to lend the material (Lisbon Surf School and Camp), and encouraged available surf instructors to donate their time, then I had to coordinate with the shelter so that they would provide transportation. The program is a great success. The ones that started in February 2014 are now catching their own waves and gaining more interest in the sport every week.
