Evgeny Burnaev
Evgeny Burnaev is a Full Professor and the Director of the Applied AI Center at the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech) in Moscow, Russia.346 He specializes in machine learning, particularly generative modeling, manifold learning, industrial predictive analytics, anomaly detection, surrogate modeling, optimization, and 3D computer vision.15
Burnaev graduated from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology in 2006 and received his Ph.D. in theoretical foundations of informatics from the Institute for Information Transmission Problems in 2008.134 He later obtained his Habilitation (Doctor of Science, the highest academic degree in Russia) in mathematical modeling from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology in 2021.14
Prior to his current position, Burnaev was an Associate Professor at Skoltech from 2016 to 2022.34 He also served as the Head of the Data Analysis and Predictive Modeling Lab at the Kharkevich Institute for Information Transmission Problems, Russian Academy of Sciences.23 Additionally, he worked as a Head of Data Analysis Group at Datadvance LLC, where he carried out successful industrial projects with companies like Airbus, SAFT, IHI, and Sahara Force India Formula 1 team.34
Burnaev has published his research in top computer science conferences and journals, such as ICML, ICLR, NeurIPS, CVPR, ICCV, and ECCV.4 He has been honored with several awards, including the Moscow Government Prize for Young Scientists, Geometry Processing Dataset Award, Best Paper Awards, and the Ilya Segalovich Yandex Science Prize.34
Burnaev has been a Principal Investigator and Co-Principal Investigator of numerous grants and industrial projects worth over 1 billion rubles since 2017.4 He has developed and taught three full courses at Skoltech: Machine Learning, Bayesian Machine Learning, and Foundations of Data Science.34 Ten of his Ph.D. students have successfully defended their theses under his supervision.4
