Evert Hoogendoorn

Evert Hoogendoorn is an expert in playful learning and game design with extensive experience in education and serious game development. He is currently working as an expert/ontwerper (designer) of playful learning at his own company.1

Hoogendoorn has been a lecturer at the Utrecht School of the Arts (HKU) since 1999, where he serves as a Senior Lecturer in the Master Arts Education program and Programme Leader for Ludodidactics at the Centre of Expertise Arts Education.1 He has also held positions such as Head of Design for Virtual Theatre & Games and senior Lecturer in Game Design & Development at HKU.1

From 2010 to 2020, Hoogendoorn worked at IJsfontein, a company specializing in serious games, where he held roles as a Game Designer and Strategist.1 At IJsfontein, he focused on developing games for healthcare, education, corporate training, and cultural institutions.1

Hoogendoorn is known for his expertise in applying game design principles to education, developing a method called "Ludodidactiek" which combines educational science, game design, and course design.2 He has created innovative assessment methods, such as a card game used for formative assessment in his courses.2

With over 25 years of experience in the field, Hoogendoorn is a regular speaker at conferences, conducts workshops, and writes articles on games, education, and the intersection of these domains.1
