Erich P. Ippen, Professor at MIT
Erich P. Ippen is an Elihu Thomson Professor of Electrical Engineering Emeritus and Professor of Physics Emeritus at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He is a principal investigator in the Research Laboratory of Electronics (RLE) at MIT.23
Ippen received his S.B. in electrical engineering from MIT in 1962 and later attended the University of California, where he earned his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in 1965 and 1968 respectively.46
He is known for his early work on nonlinear optics in fibers.1 Ippen has been a professor at MIT for over 40 years, teaching in the fields of electrical engineering and physics.5
