As Chief Medical Officer at Briotech I'm responsible for all of our human care, including domestic and international clinical trials, FDA regulation, pathogen susceptibilities, hospital and clinic disinfection, pandemic response initiatives, prophylactic and therapeutic modalities, and emerging infection response. My job has been made easier through our independent testing by national laboratories, academic centers, and the NIH showing that we rapidly inactivate viruses (including SARS-CoV-2), bacteria (including some of the most resistant in the world), fungi like the highly resistant Candida auris, and Aspergillus (black mold), and even prions - all with off-the shelf product at room temperature. Despite that killing potency we have testing that shows we can be sprayed, full-strength, in eyes, mouths, on skin, and on textiles with no irritation and no damage. We're that level of gentle even though we inactivate poliovirus, the reference standard for tough little viruses, at a rate of more than 99.99% in 30 seconds according to independent US GLP labs and the European Union's reference laboratory. We're creating patents at the rate of about one every two months, and peer-reviewed journal articles faster than that. It's an exciting place to be working.

We focus on providing secure and robust biometric identities to displaced populations, to refugees, and for the trafficked, the oppressed, and the enslaved on three continents. We use a range of biometric solutions, often coupled to secure blockchain entries, but our focus is iris biometrics for secure identity and the protection of persecuted minorities who might otherwise be invisible.

IHS is a Washington State "Profit-For-Purpose" company internally chartered as a social business and specializing in vulnerability reduction for systems and populations. We work with a range of partners to analyze the disaster risks within informal settlements in the developing world and to assist governments with mitigation strategies for those at greatest risk. We work dominantly in Latin America and the Pacific Island Nations with a particular focus on provisioning distributed energy and clean water to the urban poor.

Our internal structure is based on the definition of a social business given by Muhammed Yunus in his 2006 Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech. Our priorities are:

- 1) Work that encompasses a social good.

- 2) Work that allows us to employ the greatest number of people while paying a fair living wage and providing a medical safety net, and

- 3) Enough corporate financial return to ensure safety and  resilience, but no more. All else is re-invested in capacity-building efforts within the populations we serve.

We work closely with both public and private sector interests to reduce the impact of industrial and natural disasters using geospatial information, taxonomic data management, system dynamics, complex adaptive systems visualization, public health epidemiology, and a participatory educational process based on free and open-source tools. We have designed and installed a number of unique water purification systems designed as small businesses for the rural poor. We contribute to open GIS data efforts globally, and we stress clean and sustainable manufacturing and procurement processes with our several partners.

We are a member of the <a href="http://Launch.org">Launch.org</a> team designing, with NASA, Nike, USAID and the US State Department, new methods for manufacturing that reduce waste and protect vulnerable populations from both physical harm and environmental degradation.

InSTEDD is an outstanding global NGO specializing humanitarian informatics, particularly around health in resource-poor economies. Their CEO, Wendy Schultz, leads teams in Cambodia and Argentina that provide support to organizations like UNICEF, the Gates Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundation, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and many others. InSTEDD's work is quiet, foundational, and superb, and they often allow others to take center stage to ensure an important effort continues moving forward. I'm very pleased to be associated with such an influential, humble, and effective set of colleagues.

Singularity University is dedicated to the understanding of the impact of exponential technologies on humanity. The students at Singularity are drawn from some of the brightest young people on the planet and, over three months each summer, they are immersed in a broad range of topics related to those technologies. They are then obligated to design projects for the betterment of humanity with these specific goals:

-  Positively affect
-  1 billion people
-  within ten years
-  in some aspect of a Global Grand Challenge (and we talk a lot about what those are).

I help them understand something of the global issues around climate change, poverty, infectious disease, environmental degradation, resource shortfalls, population demographics, the impact of gender inequity, the rule of law, the concept of a failed state, and the tools already available to help each of those. Then, as projects begin to take shape, I serve as a team mentor and (if they make it that far) corporate coach for those who choose Social Purpose Corporations.

Singularity University

Dual Core Faculty in Global Grand Challenges and in Exponential Medicine

For about two years I was the VP of a newly-created division chartered to devise methods for taking disaster risk reduction techniques into the slums of the developing world.

Our efforts over the first 18 months of the division led to:

1. close relationships in Mexico (our first site selection),

2. the development of a new taxonomic analysis for human security,

3. a new international Working Group around the work we'd designed, and

4. a renewing of our "Smart Power" contract from US government agencies like the State Department for continued help within the slums of the developing world.

Interest from multiple nations led to a decision in June of 2012 to spin off an entirely new company that would focus entirely on humanitarian informatics. That new company is IHS, and my current position there is CEO.
