Eric Newcomer

Eric Newcomer is an American journalist and the founder of Newcomer, a media outlet that focuses on startups and venture capital. Born on September 7, 1989, in York, Pennsylvania, he grew up in Macon, Georgia, and graduated from Harvard College in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy. While at Harvard, he was involved with The Harvard Crimson and won awards for investigative reporting.1

Career Highlights

Newcomer began his journalism career with internships at the South Florida Sun-Sentinel and the Tampa Bay Times. He later became the first employee at The Information, a tech news site, and then worked as a technology reporter for Bloomberg LP from 2014 to 2020. His reporting at Bloomberg included significant stories, such as a viral article about Uber's then-CEO Travis Kalanick, which contributed to Kalanick's resignation.12

In October 2020, Newcomer launched Newcomer, a newsletter that provides in-depth coverage of the startup ecosystem and venture capital. The newsletter has grown significantly, attracting over 1,900 paying subscribers by July 2022 and expanding to include events like the Cerebral Valley AI Summit, which he co-hosted in March 2023.134

Current Work

As the lead writer for Newcomer, Newcomer publishes articles that include scoops on startup deals, profiles of venture capitalists, and analyses of industry trends. He also hosts a podcast and organizes technology summits, further establishing himself as a prominent voice in the startup and venture capital sectors.245

Newcomer currently resides in Brooklyn, New York, and continues to build his platform into a comprehensive media and events business.34
