Each year, we form a new learning community with a cohort of thirty-five dedicated students. Working together with a select group of faculty, these students take classes that have been specifically designed for the Honors Program. They engage in experiences available only to Honors students and go on to do great things in the world.

All efforts are in the service of creating learning environments that incorporate diversity, service learning and multi/intercultural teaching and learning methodology.

Assistant Director for Experiential Learning

The OutDoor School Curriculum Director (CD) coordinates the cooperative development and delivery of academic and field based instruction.  They ensure the integration of each educational format (academic, field studies, outdoor recreation and work experience instruction), work with ODS Principal to ensure educational objectives are being met, and ensure state requirements are being achieved.  The CD is charged with ensuring all teaching staff develop integrated curriculum that is well documented and can be used year after year on a rotational basis.  The main objective is to ensure ODS students are exposed to a rich and engaging academic environment that will serve as a model for other alternative education High Schools and can be easily exported to NYC satellite operations.  Up to twenty five percent of the CD’s time will be spent in a teaching capacity.  Additionally, the CD is responsible for risk analysis and management of outdoor field and recreation activities.  -Promoted an academic environment that empowers students to succeed both academically and socially.-Work with the Principal to establish program objectives and evaluative metrics.-Facilitate a collaborative curriculum development process with faculty.-Provide support and feedback to faculty on the development and delivery of curriculum.-Assist ODS Principal with Staff evaluations as they pertain to instructional delivery and development.-Develop risk management policies and protocols for outdoor recreation components that includes a documentation, review and approval process.-Review and approve all outdoor adventure trips.-Plan and coordinate the development and implementation of program components (field studies, work experience, outdoor and classroom education, counseling and credit accrual) with staff.
