Erfan Faridmoayer, M.D. was a graduate of Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine (OUWB) Class of 2020.1 Tragically, he passed away from cardiac arrest in late 2023, about six months before a memorial was held in his honor on June 6, 2024.1
During his time at OUWB, Faridmoayer was highly involved in various activities:
- He tutored and mentored other students
- Participated in surgical research studies
- Presented at local and national conferences
- Started a student interest group for neurosurgery1
Faridmoayer's journey to becoming a physician in the United States was inspiring. He came to the U.S. from Iran after gaining permission through the Diversity Visa Lottery program. He initially attended community college in California before transferring to UCLA, where he earned a bachelor's degree with honors in molecular, cell, and developmental biology.1
His colleagues and professors remembered him fondly. Dr. Alison Thomas, one of his classmates who helped organize the memorial, described him as "an extraordinary human being whose legacy and memory needed to be honored".1 His father, Dr. Alireza Faridmoayer, a neurosurgeon in Iran, spoke of his son's enduring smile and joy for life, even during challenging times.1
To honor Faridmoayer's memory and continue his legacy, his classmates and OUWB have established The Erfan Faridmoayer Memorial Fund. The goal is to create an endowment to fund scholarships for future OUWB physicians who embody Faridmoayer's values and character.1
