Eoin Sharkey is the Founder & CEO of The BioFactory Ltd, a social enterprising start-up focusing on innovating sanitation solutions for displaced communities, primarily in sub-Saharan Africa.
Eoin has been recognized as a finalist for multiple awards including the Global Good, People's Choice, and Santander Entrepreneur Awards in 2019, showcasing his dedication and innovative approach to social entrepreneurship.
His background includes studying A-Levels at Wallingford School with top grades in Maths, Further Maths, Physics, and Chemistry, followed by earning a First Class Master of Engineering (MEng) degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Bath.
Prior to founding The BioFactory, Eoin held positions as a Project Engineer at 3P Innovation Limited and as a Photographer at Soul Media Ltd, demonstrating a diverse skill set and experience that contributes to his success as an entrepreneur.
With a strong focus on generating revenue through waste management in refugee camps, The BioFactory's solutions not only provide improved sanitation facilities but also produce biogas for cooking fuel, contributing to sustainability and positive impact in communities.
Eoin and his team are currently working on developing a full-scale prototype of their improved latrine & waste processing system in Kenya, leveraging strong connections in the country to refine the design and enhance usability, showcasing a commitment to practical implementation and impact.
