Ellen Liu

Ellen Liu is a seasoned philanthropic leader with over 20 years of experience in social justice philanthropy, movement building, grant making, and non-profit management.

She possesses deep expertise in intersectional feminism, trust-based philanthropy, trauma-informed philanthropy, and the domestic US reproductive health, rights, and justice movement, particularly focusing on marginalized communities.

Ellen is skilled in supporting advocacy organizations during change management, providing mentorship, capacity building, and thought partnership to leaders.

Her additional expertise includes women's health, HIV/AIDS policy, comprehensive sexual and reproductive health education, gender-based violence, public health, human rights, and ACA health care reform.

She is dedicated to empowering young women of color leaders and is interested in integrating design thinking and collective impact in philanthropy and social justice efforts.

Ellen's educational background includes a Certificate in Non-Profit Management from Georgetown University, an M.A. in International Relations and Economics from The Johns Hopkins University, and a BA in History from Georgetown University.

She is fluent in Mandarin Chinese and has basic proficiency in Spanish and Italian.

Ellen has held key positions at organizations such as the Ms. Foundation for Women, where she served as Vice President of Grantmaking and Capacity Building, Director of Capacity Building and Learning, Director of Women's Health, and Senior Program Officer.

She has also worked as a Program Officer at the Open Society Foundations, Consultant at Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs, Special Projects Consultant to the Executive Director at Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation, Intern at UN World Food Programme, and Senior Account Executive at MSL (Global).
