    Elizabeth Williams is a prominent researcher and co-founder of the Queensland Bladder Cancer Initiative (QBCI).15 She holds the position of Associate Professor at Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and is based at the Translational Research Institute.14 Dr. Williams has a strong academic background, having earned her PhD and Bachelor of Science (Honours) from the University of Melbourne.4

    At QUT, she serves as the Head of Tumour Models in the Faculty of Health, School of Biomedical Sciences.4 Her research focuses on oncology and carcinogenesis, as well as biochemistry and cell biology.4 Dr. Williams joined the Australian Prostate Cancer Research Centre-Queensland (APCRC-Q) in 2013 to lead the tumour models stream and expand her prostate cancer research program.2

    In addition to her work on bladder cancer, Dr. Williams is part of the QUT Centre for Genomics and Personalised Health.3 She co-founded the QBCI with Dr. Ian Vela, a urologic oncologist from the Princess Alexandra Hospital, to address the challenges posed by bladder cancer, which affects one in 68 Australians and is the ninth most common cancer worldwide.1
