Dr. Elizabeth Clayborne, MD, MA, a talented emergency physician, ethicist, and entrepreneur, hails from Denver, Colorado. She pursued her undergraduate studies at Duke University, crafting a unique major in Medical Ethics and Religion.
During a two-year research fellowship at the National Institutes of Health, Dr. Clayborne delved into the intersection of race, ethnicity, and genetics within the Social and Behavioral Research Branch of the National Human Genome Research Institute.
Her academic journey continued at Case Western Reserve University, where she efficiently completed a dual MD/MA Bioethics program in just four years. Further specialization led her to an Emergency Medicine residency at George Washington University Hospital, culminating in her role as Chief Resident.
Currently a distinguished faculty member at the University of Maryland School of Medicine Department of Emergency Medicine, Dr. Clayborne actively contributes to the fields of ethics, health policy, end-of-life care, and innovation. Her innovative spirit shone through the creation of Bleed Freeze, a pioneering epistaxis device.
Recognized for her entrepreneurial acumen, she secured the NSF I-Corps grant in 2015, a pivotal moment that propelled the establishment of her venture, Emergency Medical Innovation, LLC.
With a commitment to ethical healthcare practices, Dr. Clayborne has held leadership roles within prestigious organizations including MedChi, American College of Emergency Physicians, Society of Academic Emergency Medicine, American Medical Association, and National Medical Association.
