Elan Kiderman

Elan Kiderman Ullendorff is the Director of Product at The Marshall Project, a nonprofit news organization focused on the U.S. criminal justice system. He has held this position since June 2020, where he is responsible for enhancing the organization's design and developing new products and newsletters.14

Educational Background

Elan completed a Master of Integrated Product Design at the University of Pennsylvania from 2013 to 2015. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Creativity: Theory, Culture & Practice from the same institution, which he obtained between 2011 and 2014.12

Professional Experience

Prior to joining The Marshall Project, Elan worked at Quartz as a Design Director for R&D, where he designed award-winning news products and data visualization platforms from April 2020 to June 2020. His earlier roles included:

• Senior Product Designer at Quartz (April 2018 - April 2020)
• Product Designer at Quartz (March 2015 - April 2018)
• Adjunct Assistant Professor at CUNY Graduate School of Journalism (September 2017 - April 2020)
• Design Consultant at Viggle Inc. (2014)
• Internships at Mucca Design (2012) and Gin Lane Media (2011).123

Additional Roles

Elan is also involved in academia as an Adjunct Professor at Chatham University since April 2020 and contributes to discussions on design through his newsletter, "Escape the Algorithm," which focuses on finding a more human side of the internet.25
