This role was located at the Australian Astronomical Observatory (AAO) before their move to Maquarie. It had a 50/50 division between research and telescope support for the Anglo-Australian Telescope (AAT) located at Siding Spring Observatory. I supported the HERMES and AAOmega instruments as well as developed Python code to assist the instrumentation. The code provided a software solution to the positioning issue between the FPI and gripper on the 2dF robotic positioner, this code was based on previous code by Russell Cannon and will be hosted on github (link TBA).

In this course I taught students to explore the intersection of coding and data. During this Python-focused introductory workshop, students learn to harness the power of an essential programming language for data scientists and use it to drive accurate business insights. Working with real-world examples, I cover:
Fundamental Python programming techniques and tools.
The history of Python and how it compares to other programming languages.
Applications in data analysis and the types of problems it can solve.
Where Python programming fits into the data workflow.
How to apply your new skills to solve a real-world problem with Python.

Python 101 Workshop Instructor 

As the lead instructor, I am responsible for organizing and disseminating all the course material as well as creating new material as needed and managing the students and their capstone projects. 
In this course, I teach basic Data Science with some advanced techniques. Students create predictive models by learning to wrangle, analyze, and visualize data. This course emphasised hands-on experience for students and had them develop hard skills like Unix, Git, SQL, Python, machine learning, and modeling techniques while creating their own data projects and applications.Some of the topics I teach in this course are: 
Git, Python, Data Structures, Inferential and Descriptive Statistics, Probability, EDA processes, numpy, visualization, SQL, Tableau, Decision Trees and Random Forest, Machine Learning, Classification (KNN, logistic, etc), Clustering (kmeans vs DBscan), Regression (polynomial, logistic, etc.), hypothesis testing, bootstrapping, PCA and NLP, to name just a few.

Lead Instructor for Immersive Data Science Course (DSi2) Sydney

As the Information Officer, I am responsible for dealing with tracking all website and social outreach statistics and compiling quarterly update reports.  I designed and created the new ITSO office homepage and subpages (https://www.aao.gov.au/itso/) to interface with both the Australian public as well as astronomy professionals. This site was successfully launched on February 16, 2016 and used CSS and HTML in the Drupal system. I use Drupal, CSS, HTML, Python, Scala, SBT and Java coding in this role. 

In this role, I produced numerous departmental documentations outlining tutorials and providing information.I additionally provided official documentation support for Australian astronomers as well as built and maintaining an online public outreach portfolio. I raised the profile of the newly rebranded ITSO office. With my outreach program, ITSO went from zero online impressions in November 2015 to over 100,000 impressions as of 31 March 2016 (via Twitter Analytics).  I additionally organised and carried out the 2015 Australian Gemini Cosmic Poll (https://www.aao.gov.au/news-media/news/cosmic-poll-2015). The Cosmic Poll ITSO image was posted to the Astronomy Picture of the Day (apod) site on March 1st 2016, where it received worldwide recognition.

I designed an online Pythonic Integration Time Calculator for the Magellan telescope. I provided a working prototype which could connect to the organizations webserver and launched through the Apache client. All the base code for this project was in Python although the web facing code was in HTML. To view the code see my github hosted version at https://astrohyde.github.io/ITC/.

Both of these courses were alot of fun to teach and I really enjoyed being able to help new students cover some of the basic optics and astronomy that got me interested in pursing science as a career!

While pursing my MSc in Astronomy and Astrophysics I was a volunteer for the public outreach project of 'Open Day' for the Astronomy department. For this outreach I created and constructed a 'inside-out-telescope' room using basic optical design to project holographic laser images through a smoke wall, illustrating optical astronomy and creating a fun visual and interactive display for a public audience.
