Joining SparkBeyond was a lateral move for me, with the purpose of total immersion in machine learning and data science. My special mandate was improving of the development velocity and R&D effectiveness.

-  Core responsibilities: data ingestion, memory management, distributed execution, web framework, authentication. Basically, the product infrastructure around the algorithmic engine.
-  Led key initiatives in software design and architecture: backward compatibility, improving code testability, refactoring predictive model API, migrating the backend web framework.
-  Developed a training program for team leaders, personally coached new ones.
-  Micro-service advocate, leading the transition from monolith to cloud-native architecture.
-  Designed and led the transition to JWT-based authentication for all platform services.
-  Pioneered a new continuous integration process using GitLab.
-  Led a release process improvement initiative, reducing the cycle from 2.5 months down to 1.
-  Owner of cross-R&D retrospective and methodology improvements.
-  Scrum coach, led transition to Kanban, introduced elements of Shape Up (Basecamp).
-  Initiated a machine learning mentorship program for software engineers.
-  Software focus on functional programming in Scala, significant mileage in Python and Vue.js, experimenting with Elm.

Led the development of an engine for automated management and optimization of online ad campaigns, handling massive traffic.

-  Joined the company to grow its R&D department. Hired and trained new developers.
-  Led rapid-cycle research and deployment of trading algorithms.
-  Modernized the development workflow, introduced continuous integration using Jenkins.
-  Focused on backend in Python / Django on Heroku, with Google BigQuery as data infrastructure.
-  Automated a great deal of the AdOps processes in the company.

Angel Sensor team was accepted to this most exclusive accelerator program. This was an incredible 4-month workshop on business strategy, marketing, user acquisition and so much more!

Batch 16 (Startup Accelerator Program)

Developed an open source wristband for vital sign tracking in mobile health - before smartwatches were a thing! Built the underlying wearable/IoT software stack from scratch. Open source mobile SDK released on GitHub.

-  Technical co-founder, owner of the product vision and technology.
-  Personally developed most of the firmware: custom kernel/operating system, highly optimized signal processing algorithms, Bluetooth communication and system classes.
-  Led the research of a proprietary optical sensor for heart rate and blood oxygen detection.
-  Managed a mobile SDK team in the company and off-shore (Android and iOS).
-  Implemented the first and only commercial 16-bit embedded Lua engine for 3rd party apps.
-  Owner of the company’s marketing, branding and positioning strategies; leading media/PR engagements.
-  Raised over $300,000 in a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo.
-  Negotiated and raised >$1M in venture capital in 4 funding rounds.
-  Accepted to the 500 Startups accelerator, reached the final round at YCombinator
-  Inventor of patents US20160106367 / WO2015001434 A1.

Principal Software Engineer

Worked on digital video routers built with C++ and CentOS Linux. Basically, developed big boxes to process gigabytes of MPEG streams. Took over software architecture and methodology.

-  Refactored critical subsystems with design patterns and Boost libraries.
-  Wrote a testing harness in Python, reduced product QA cycle from several weeks to one day.
-  Introduced the first embedded web component for run-time database access and debugging.
-  Served as Scrum master for several teams, promoted Agile methodology in the company.
-  Established and steered a cross-department workgroup to improve the product build.
-  Initiated lectures on C++ and software architecture, personally delivered over 20 talks.

BigBand Networks

Developed the Java ME virtual machine in C, C++ and Java. Focused on Linux for embedded devices and proprietary mobile operating systems. Led enterprise customer engagements.

-  JVM for ARM and x86 processors, memory and native resource optimization, refactoring multimedia library to reduce platform coupling, virtual call architecture in C.
-  Project tech lead for customer engagements with mobile OEMs in Asia and North America.
-  Pioneered a new software distribution model that reduced time to market by months.
-  Led a proof-of-concept implementation of Java ME Embedded for OpenGL ES platforms.
-  Established an Agile work group for team leaders. Served as Scrum master.

Sun Microsystems

Tech Lead & Member of Technical Staff

Developed radio and wired communication platforms in C++/C/Assembly for ARM7. Extensive knowledge in GPS navigation, command & control and telecom systems.

-  Embedded software team management. Introduced new product architecture and technologies.
-  Proprietary micro-kernel design and implementation. Core libraries architect.
-  Lab skills: o-scope, logic/network analyzers, signal generator, soldering.
