    Director Additive Manufacturing at The Ohio State University

    Edward Herderick, PhD, is the Director of Additive Manufacturing at The Ohio State University Center for Design and Manufacturing Excellence (CDME). With a strong background in the materials science and engineering field, Ed plays a pivotal role in overseeing all additive activities at CDME.

    Prior to his current position at OSU, Ed held several key roles in the industry, including serving as the Global Sales Leader for Portable NDT products at GE Inspection Technologies. His expertise led him to focus on inspection and NDT of additively manufactured metal parts.

    Before his global commercial role, Ed was the Additive Technologies Leader for GE Corporate Supply Chain and Operations, where he played a significant role in integrating additive manufacturing into the supply chain.

    Ed's professional journey also includes being the Director of R&D at rapid prototype + manufacturing and serving as the Director of the Additive Manufacturing Consortium and a Materials Engineer at EWI in Columbus, Ohio.

    His impactful contributions extend to the political realm, having served as the Materials Societies Congressional Fellow in the office of US Senator Sherrod Brown. Ed's diverse background includes a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from The Ohio State University, coupled with various leadership experiences in the materials community.

    An active member of the materials community, Ed's involvement includes serving on the board of directors for TMS (The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society) and participating in several committees for ACerS (American Ceramic Society). Ed's expertise in additive manufacturing is exemplified by his involvement in projects like the additively made T25 sensor housing, the first FAA certified metal additive part in a GE engine.

    Ed's commitment to advancing manufacturing technologies and his broad leadership background make him a valuable asset in the additive manufacturing industry.
