Eddy Agbo

Eddy Chukwura Agbo is a prominent Nigerian molecular biologist and the founder and CEO of Fyodor Biotechnologies, Inc. He has transitioned to American citizenship and is recognized for his contributions to global healthcare.

Early Life and Education

Agbo was born in Mbu, a small village in southeastern Nigeria. He earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. Furthering his education, he obtained a Master of Science in Biotechnology from Wageningen University and a PhD in Molecular Genetics from Utrecht University in the Netherlands. Additionally, he holds a Graduate Certificate in Leadership and Management in the Life Sciences from Johns Hopkins University Business School in the USA.1

Career

Eddy Agbo has held various academic positions at institutions such as Utrecht University, Wageningen University, and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He conducted biomedical research for several years before moving to the United States, where he worked as a Research Fellow at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Later, he served as Senior Director for Research and Preclinical Development at Cangen Biotechnologies before founding Fyodor Biotechnologies in 2008.12

Achievements

Under Agbo's leadership, Fyodor Biotechnologies has received multiple accolades, including a minority-owned business achievement award from the Greater Baltimore Committee in 2012. The company also won the Innovation Prize for Africa in 2016 for its Urine Malaria Test, which can diagnose malaria within 25 minutes.1

Agbo's work focuses on transforming healthcare delivery globally, emphasizing innovation and social impact through biotechnology.2
