Jessica Posner is a social entrepreneur, author, and co-founder of Shining Hope for Communities (SHOFCO), an organization that focuses on combating extreme poverty and gender inequality in Kenya. After meeting Kennedy Odede, a local community organizer, in Kibera during her study abroad program, she became one of the first outsiders to live inside the slum and was deeply moved by the difficult circumstances facing the community. She urged Kennedy to apply to U.S. universities during Kenya's post-election crisis in 2007, and together they founded SHOFCO in 2009. With the mission of linking schools for girls to a set of high-value, holistic community services for all, SHOFCO has reached 100,000 people in 2016 and employs over 350 people. Jessica is a New York Times bestselling author of the memoir Find Me Unafraid: Love, Loss, and Hope in An African Slum, which she co-authored with her husband Kennedy. She has won numerous awards, including the 2010 Do Something Award and the Echoing Green Fellowship.
