Current focus areas include:
-  Prioritize family -- they've weathered decades of career as my priority; now it’s their turn
-  Daily bootcamp workouts - to optimize my longevity and healthy enjoyment of the final third of life
-  Read a book a month - and, yes, business books are excluded from the metric
-  Learn guitar - my mom's classical acoustic from the '70's and my Fender Stratocaster
-  Ride the Harley - get on the road, including motorcycle camping at national parks
-  Promote democracy - seek opportunities to serve my country on issues of social justice
-  Board service - continue on the non-profit board I've volunteered with for >10 years
-  Mentor youth - guide students who rise above difficult challenges to persevere + succeed
-  Coach and mentor future leaders - in ways that leverage my gifts to accelerate their journeys
-  Rowing - challenge myself to learn a new-to-me sport with a team rowing in the Oakland estuary
-  Lawn bowling - transition former bocce success (2x champs!) to the Berkeley Lawn Bowling Club
-  Be open - to consulting gigs, projects, collaborations, and other opportunities that arise
-  Travel the world - immerse in other cultures: re-charge, expand perspectives, feed my soul

There’s a lot to know in order to be a well-rounded and effective Chief Digital Officer (CDO).

From privacy and security to ethics and cultural issues, there’s increasing complexity involved in the development and management of digital teams, assets, communications, products, and services. Technology, analytics, product management, social media, online marketing, lead-gen, artificial intelligence, and many other functions may be part of the CDO's portfolio, which they must round-out with operational, management, and leadership skills.

Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) is world-renowned for its cross-disciplinary coursework. CMU's Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy and the Tepper School of Business have joined-up to develop this visionary executive education program.

I'm proud to have helped design the program content over the course of many months with the lead professor, his fellow faculty and staff, and other working digital executives. I now serve as a coach to a team in its inaugural class.

Board member (vice president of the board 2014-2019) for the Unity Care Group, which is a community-based, non-profit, youth development agency serving the San Francisco Bay Area.  It operates programs to enrich the lives of at-risk youth, with a focus on foster children and their families.  Its mission is to create healthier communities through safe and secure living environments, education, and the preparation of youth for productive lives once they leave the foster care system.

InnoCentive enables scientists, engineers, professionals, and entrepreneurs to collaborate to deliver breakthrough solutions for innovative R&D-driven organizations. InnoCentive "Seekers" (typically companies) submit challenges to the InnoCentive marketplace where 200,000+ "Solvers" (engineers, scientists, inventors, business people, and research organizations)  are invited to solve them. The Solvers from around the world who deliver the most innovative solutions receive financial awards of as much as US $1 million. InnoCentive’s Seekers include commercial, government, and non-profit organizations such as Procter & Gamble, Avery Dennison, SAP, Eli Lilly, GlobalGiving, and The Rockefeller Foundation.

Led the teams that manage SAP's corporate website (<a href="http://sap.com">http://sap.com</a>) and 72 localized country sites in 40 languages.  Managed SAP's brand-level social media presence on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, and similar sites. Headed SAP's hosted social network, the SAP Community Network at <a href="http://scn.sap.com/">http://scn.sap.com/</a>, of 3 million customers, partners, and other members. Was responsible for SAP TechEd events, which are major conferences (30,000 attendees annually), held in four global locations per year, to provide technical education and enablement to customers and partners.

Managed the team that built the social networking community of more than three million software developers, business users, partners, and others who operate, surround, extend, and complement the core SAP environment for the benefit of our customer companies and millions of users worldwide. Team managed and executed the massive integration of acquired companies' online channels into these Oracle properties (PeopleSoft, Oblix, TimesTen, Retek, ProfitLogic, TripleHop...) while simultaneously upgraded and advanced Oracle's online channels (navigation and information architecture, user interface design, usability and user experience, platform upgrades and improvements, business processes and standards...).

Led the world-class, Webby award-winning team that optimized PeopleSoft websites to build product/service awareness and generate quality sales leads.  Drove $62M in net new revenue with a budget of $3M, thus a 20x ROI.

Responsible for the overall management and operations of web marketing producers and project managers, content and production specialists, information architects, usability specialists, metrics analysts, designers, and others.

Refined, shaped, and evolved PeopleSoft_____ILLEGAL_CHAR_SSSTART146ILLEGAL_CHAR_EEEND_____s corporate web presence (<a href="http://PeopleSoft.com">PeopleSoft.com</a>) and 23 country websites in 12 languages, plus provided benefit, influence, and alignment with customer and partner extranets.

Managed marketing and business strategy function for $3.4B Services business unit of Sun Microsystems, Inc.  Responsible for $12M budget and 85-person team that developed strategies, then created and drove programs to increase market presence, awareness, and preference, impact top line revenue, and produce significant cost savings.  Provided indirect matrix management and functional leadership, prioritization, and policy direction to 300+ person, $58M+ budget extended global marketing team as point of interface and alignment with other Sun product groups and chief marketing officer.

Services business unit produced 27% of Sun_____ILLEGAL_CHAR_SSSTART146ILLEGAL_CHAR_EEEND_____s total revenues in areas including product lifecycle support, customer education and training, and architecture/technical consulting, was highly profitable, with revenue, gross margin, and profit contribution growth even during recessionary 2001-2002 economy.

Developed and drove division-wide vision, strategy, multi-year roadmap, organization, and resource/investment priorities enabling eCommerce and eBusiness success for services division.
