Lawrence M. Zacarese

Lawrence M. Zacarese is a seasoned law enforcement professional with over 20 years of experience in emergency services, law, and campus safety. He is the Interim Chief of Police and Assistant Vice President for Campus Safety & Senior Operations Director for Institutional Resiliency & Business Continuity and Emergency Management at a major public research University on Long Island.

Lawrence started his career as a volunteer firefighter and emergency medical technician before moving on to work at various hospitals and eventually joining the New York City Police Department. He served as a patrol officer, plain-clothes anti-crime officer, and as a member of the Emergency Service Unit of the Special Operations Division.

Since 2009, he has worked with the University Police Department, overseeing a range of operations such as Patrol Operations, Parking Enforcement, Uniformed Security Service operations, Detective Division, 911 communications, the Emergency Operations Center, the Office of Access Control and Physical Security, and the Office of Emergency Management. Lawrence has also been an Adjunct Faculty Member at Stony Brook University Graduate School and taught at Stony Brook University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine.

Lawrence is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, the FBI Mid-Atlantic Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar (FBI-LEEDS) leadership-training program at Princeton University, and has studied law, public administration, and executive leadership. He is also the former President of The Long Island and Metropolitan Area College and University Security Consortium and has worked for multiple companies as an Independent Consultant. Additionally, Lawrence founded The Zacarese Law Firm, P.C, served as Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer at Titan Global, LLC, and served as the Regional Resource and Bio-Terrorism Preparedness Coordinator at Stony Brook Medicine.
