Karen Feinstein
Dr. Karen Feinstein is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Jewish Healthcare Foundation (JHF) along with its supporting organizations including the Pittsburgh Regional Health Initiative (PRHI), Health Careers Futures (HCF), and Women's Health Activist Movement Global (WHAMglobal). With a tenure that dates back to 1990 when she assumed the role of the Foundation's first CEO, Dr. Feinstein has been instrumental in addressing health concerns related to aging, women's health, and disadvantaged populations. Over the years, she has steered JHF and PRHI to the forefront of advocating for patient safety, healthcare quality, and workforce issues.
Dr. Feinstein's pivotal role in establishing PRHI marked a significant development in the healthcare landscape, creating one of the country's initial regional multi-stakeholder quality coalitions dedicated to enhancing health care efficiency, implementing best practices, and ensuring safety through the integration of industrial engineering principles. Additionally, her founding of Health Careers Futures aimed to support the healthcare sector in the Pittsburgh region by facilitating the attraction, training, and retention of personnel. Recognized as a prominent figure in healthcare quality improvement nationally, Dr. Feinstein is a frequent speaker at both domestic and international conferences. Her expertise is reflected in a multitude of publications on quality assurance and safety, as well as her teaching engagements at respected institutions like Boston College, Carnegie Mellon University, and the University of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Feinstein's academic journey includes a bachelor's degree from Brown University, a master's degree from Boston College, and a doctorate from Brandeis University. In recognition of her contributions, she has received Honorary Doctorates from Chatham and Carlow Universities.
