Kenitra Brown is a dedicated attorney based in Dallas. She has a strong commitment to criminal justice reform and civil/human rights and has been working to gain experience and knowledge in these areas. With a focus on challenging the status quo in the criminal justice system, Kenitra is passionate about practicing civil rights law and addressing issues surrounding criminal justice reform and access to education.
Kenitra's education includes a Juris Doctor degree from Southern Methodist University, Real Estate Transactions, Comparative Constitutional Law from the University of Oxford, and a bachelor's degree in Political Science, Religious Studies, and Policy Studies from Rice University.
As a founding board member and Criminal Justice Committee Co-Lead at Power in Action, Kenitra has been actively involved in promoting criminal justice reform. She has also worked as a staff attorney at the Deason Criminal Justice Reform Center and ran her own legal firm, the Law Office of Kenitra Brown, before transitioning into more research and policy-heavy roles.
Kenitra's interests and research focus on several areas including public education, black body politics & religion, race and juries, policing, incarceration, sentencing, the death penalty, and their effects on communities, women, and human rights. In her spare time, she enjoys volunteering with alumni and mentoring groups, reading, and entertaining.
