Javier Fernández is a leading figure in the application of machine learning and data analysis in professional soccer at FC Barcelona. He designed and led the development of the current data analysis methodology of the club, allowing coaches and players to receive detailed performance information on a daily basis and customized tools to enhance their analysis with video and data, including player development, scouting and league follow-up. Fernández has won first prize and been a finalist at the MIT Sloan Sports Analytics conference several times, and is a regular contributor to the soccer analytics community. He has also extensive experience in building scalable backend platforms for mobile and web applications.

Fernández's educational background includes obtaining a Master in Artificial Intelligence with high grades, as well as a PhD in Artificial Intelligence, both at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. He also studied Computer Science at Uppsala universitet and Universidad Simón Bolívar.

Before joining FC Barcelona, Fernández worked as a mentor at Udacity's Artificial Intelligence Nanodegree Program, and as a Backend Team Lead and Developer at Synergy-GB, where he developed over 54 software projects using backend, mobile, and web-based technologies.
