As Marketing Director of this blooming franchise network, I was responsible for driving and championing a complete overhaul of the brand and its many touch-points both in-store and online. My influence elevated the brand to compete for attention and share of wallet with other luxury service and lifestyle retail brands in the Australian landscape. In addition to the core marketing strategy (including traditional marketing, inbound marketing, digital and social marketing strategies), marketing fund management, business leadership and stakeholder relationship management, this role saw my heavy involvement in shaping building design, service design and interior design for new and refurbished store layouts. In my senior management capacity, I also had a keen interest in the ongoing growth of the business, continuing development of the brand's operations and culture through engagement of all staff in the business and thorough documentation and implementation of effective policies and procedures.

As an all-rounder, I found this hybrid role enriching and exciting as I was exposed to and responsible for the varied parts of the business, including the design, marketing and client service teams.   I enjoyed the challenge that came with balancing priorities and managing individuals and departments and ensuring that they worked together closely on day-to-day items and projects. In this role, I was able to define my best skills as communication, creative direction and account direction which all allowed me to speak to the client in their language, translate their needs into words or design direction and deliver their desired outcome with quick and efficient turnaround.   Building a strong team and robust processes were strong focuses of mine in this role as the business continued to grow.This client service role saw me heavily involved in project management and contribution towards the marketing plans and campaigns for clients including Blockbuster Australia, WaiveStar Group, Good Year, Dunlop and Beaurepaires. Priding myself on my customer service ethics, I enjoyed the challenge of effectively managing many supplier and stakeholder relationships. My proudest achievement was the co-conceptualisation of a television sponsorship of The Project on behalf of Blockbuster, coined ‘Blockbuster Top 6’ which saw an increase in rentals of up to 6 times for advertised titles (compared to non-advertised titles of a similar quality) over a six-month period. Blockbuster saw this as their most successful campaign to date based on media value compared to customer spend with over 2 x media spend achieved. My involvement included campaign concepts, art direction of logos and POS and creative direction of the TVCs.

In this role, I enjoyed the challenge of leading a full team for the first time and quickly established my leadership style, which fosters creativity and respect amongst team members. I was responsible for the traditional and digital marketing plan and strategy. The campaign calendar and concepts were developed in-house with our graphic design team and I undertook creative direction and copywriting. I oversaw execution of campaigns, managed franchisee relationships, managed media & advertising and oversaw reporting and insights. I also managed the Marketing Fund.We also managed the customer-facing website internally and I oversaw all content including; titles, reviews, videos, competitions, positioning of banners, homepage layout and search engine optimisation. I also managed and ‘built’ bi-monthly HTML emails via a website dashboard and sent to the growing database. I held a key position on the IT workgroup tasked with developing the online strategy of the business moving forward. I managed and evolved a major social media based promotion ‘Super Blogger’ centred around finding two bloggers for the brand for the next 12 months who were then sent to The Cannes Film Festival to blog about their experiencesI conceptualised, briefed and saw through implementation of the creation of a custom built blog. This included scouring through the functional specifications and working with the agency to reach the desired outcome. I managed the social media strategy for the business as well as the day to day content. This involved researching and advising the business of the best steps forward including which additional social media avenues should be used by the brand and the general approach of the brand towards social media.Also responsible for the in-store magazine and in-store DVD, I decided on content, developed the flat-plan and agency briefs and oversaw production of these each month.

Blockbuster Australia

Marketing Manager

Proactively approaching publishers and publicists to pitch for and negotiate author tours and events across Borders and Angus & Robertson, I was responsible for the end-to-end marketing of events including; creation, printing and distribution of collateral material and online activity to support and promote events and campaigns. This involved briefing, liaising, and negotiating with shopping centre management, creative agencies, media buyers, publishers, PR agencies and other external suppliers.In addition to the external stakeholders this also involved working closely with 300+ stores in Australia, New Zealand and Singapore and other key internal stakeholders including Buyers, Graphic Designers and Replenishment Analysts to ensure that the events were executed to a high standard in a professional, profitable manner.The types of events that I coordinated included small and major scale new store openings (encompassing varied on-site duties from setting up trestle tables to interviewing celebrity authors and sports people on stage), small and large scale book signings and offsite events.Whilst in the role I conceptualised and implemented ‘Borders On The Move’, an event program which delivered the effect of a Borders store (book shelves, couches etc) in an off-site location including; The Opera in the Vineyards, Art Melbourne and Art Sydney, Taste of Melbourne, The Good Food and Wine Show etc.I was responsible for controlling the events and local marketing budgets including ROI analysis and invoice processing. I also had active involvement in strategy planning and business development meetings and workshops. In this role, I remained a Social Media and new technology advocate and administrator.

Events Manager

The main responsibilities of this role included managing the content, ongoing maintenance, and traffic of the Borders website, including translating in-store and Local Area Marketing campaigns for web as well as web specific promotions. In addition, I conducted research into website best practice and made recommendations to the business.As part of the role, I maintained effective and professional relationships with key external and internal stakeholders including creative agencies and media buyers. I also ensured effective delivery and analysis of web-based activity, researched and tested the relevance and use of social networking sites and strategies and implemented social networking for the business.I was proud to be a part of a co-conceptualised world first crowd-sourcing promotion using web and social media to engage customers, following through with direction of design and implementation online and in-store.I strategically planned and implemented creative and public relations campaigns to specific target segments. I was also instrumental in the discovery process, UAT testing, implementation and ongoing development of a transactional e-commerce website.

Borders

Online Marketing Manager

A key part of the client services team, I worked across multiple blue-chip clients, providing those clients (and their 100s-1000's of staff) with daily support on their Local Area Marketing accounts. Clients included; Defence Force Recruiting, The Army Reserve, ANZ, Red Rooster, IGA, Telstra, AGL and Brumby’s. I was instrumental in the development, testing, implementation and ongoing maintenance and upgrades of multiple client-facing Local Area Marketing websites. I also managed 6 Team Leaders around the country whose teams were made up of a total of 100+ event, field and promotional staff/brand ambassadors. I was responsible for the effective coordination and delivery of various high quality experiential and promotional events. I managed the events calendar, liaised with event organisers, spent time on site, sourced and managed event merchandising requirements and worked closely with the in-house studio in the creation of collateral and advertising, including copywriting for print and radio ads.The key responsibilities of the role included; providing marketing support and creative ideas to key stakeholders, creating monthly reports tailored to clients specific needs, conducting quarterly and yearly Account Plan reviews, preparing budget requests and cost estimates, completing profit and loss reconciliations, copywriting for press and radio ads, working closely with the studio on creation of new artwork, and maintaining integral supplier relationships including media buyers, third-party promotional agencies and other marketing agencies.

Account Executive  -  Events Manager

In this role, day to day tasks included assisting customers with directions, lost property, lost children, PA announcements, purchasing gift vouchers, gift wrapping and mobility services. I also answered reception phone calls and worked closely with security personnel and cleaners to ensure the smooth operation of the centre. The role required a thorough understanding of evacuation procedures and bomb threat protocols. It was here that I first gained my customer first approach, which has served me well in my career to date. I thoroughly enjoyed my years working in this role.
