He earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and Philosophy from the University of California, Davis, and went on to complete two Master's Degrees in Computer Science, one from the University of San Francisco and another from the University of California, Berkeley.
O'Connor's professional journey began at Mandiant as an information security intern. He then interned as an application security engineer at Evernote before moving on to Opendns (now a part of Cisco) where he served as a security data scientist and software engineer intern. Subsequently, O'Connor was a data science intern at Uber before becoming a senior research engineer at Cisco. At Coinbase, O'Connor held the position of principal research scientist before becoming the research lead at a well-funded stealth start-up.
