Lisa Nelson is a highly experienced and skilled health information technology (HIT) professional with over 20 years of experience in HIT. With a Master of Science in Medical Informatics, Nelson has a strong background in developing and using HIT standards that support system integration and data interoperability. As the former Co-Chair HL7 CDA Management Group at Health Level Seven International, Nelson is an active member of several organizations, including Health Level Seven and Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise.

Nelson has authored multiple HL7 CDA Implementation Guides and IHE Profiles, including the HL7 Patient Authored Note standard in 2012, which paved the way for consumer-controlled health record applications to join the emerging HIT solution landscape. She is also the driving force behind the Janie Appleseed Network initiative (JanieAppleseed.org), which aims to build a community of individuals for spreading health literacy and HIT skills for consumers.

Nelson has also been instrumental in augmenting the C-CDA R2.1 Care Plan Document template to address the need to represent multiple care plans for a patient within one Care Plan Document. Several organizations are using her "containerized" care plan design to test the usefulness of this novel application of the C-CDA Care Plan templates.

Nelson has a broad business background and is a natural innovator and thorough analyst. As the VP Marketing and Business Development, Principal Informaticist at MaxMD, she has continued to develop standards and technical specifications, as well as product management.
