My engagement with Hewlett Packard is primarily to assist with the HP DCT Initiative.  This initiative is required for the consolidation and transformation of its data centres across APAC. This project involved replacing the existing data centres running with high costs and older technologies with the next generation of data centres.  An additional component to relocate and migrate Hewlett Packard clients to the next generation data centres.

My responsibilities as a Network Security Engineer for the consolidation and transformation of these data centres was to liaise with project managers,  solution architects and network designers, other various technical and non technical internal staff, various technical and non technical third party vendors plus various technical and non technical external Hewlett Packard clients to obtain the current solution in place for the client.

In preparation for relocation and migration to the next generation data centres, I completed and provided an analysis of the current configuration and configure the future configuration for the next generation of networking and security technologies for the client.  My analysis and configuration was peer reviewed and submitted through the change management process and procedure to migrate the client.

Network Security Engineer

The Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO - Formally National Electricity Market Management Company Limited (NEMMCO)) incorporates management of the National Electricity Market (NEM) and the retail and wholesale gas markets of eastern and southern Australia and oversees system security of the NEM electricity grid and the Victorian gas transmission network. In addition, AEMO is responsible for national transmission planning and the establishment of a Short Term Trading Market for gas.

The AEMO IT network requires extreme high availability support to allow full recovery times within 5 minutes of any network glitch. 99.999% availability of the network has been achieved on a 24x7x365 basis.

Apart from the normal BAU activities of updating and administering internal user, pc and networking security, I also managed the project to deploy and migrate existing external VPN users across from cisco technologies. Other responsibilities included the administration other devices using ADSM, cisco NAC, and RSA.

My project involved migrating users from Cisco ASA technology across to another cisco technology.  I was also responsible for the research and documentation, configuration, administration, full end to end connectivity, troubleshooting and resolution of any networking and security problems for each external user across multiple environments and technologies.

My role as the IT security Administrator is to ensure access to all IT managed services and systems is authorised, registered and controlled to prevent accidental or malicious damage to data and equipment. I meet and liaise with various staff members, project managers and auditors and provide them with reports for investigations of security breaches.
I am also responsible for ensuring security standards, policies and all current practical security measures are implemented, tested and are kept current and fully documented, Managing and registering access to all IT managed systems, Reporting of electronic information risks, breaches and developments and reporting on inappropriate and excessive internet usage.
I am involved in the coordination of testing new security patches, installation of the latest anti-virus patches, agents and software. Further I search, assess and recommend appropriate mitigation, IT security vulnerabilities and security incidents, Identify and report security risks that may effect systems, and develop IT security policies, standards, procedures, guidelines and their implementation.

My role involved managing the associated business as usual activities in an ITIL supported environment and from an IT security perspective.

These activities included raising, peer reviewing and evaluating risks associated with the configuration, networking and security devices utilized in implementing new changes within the clients’ infrastructure.  Further activities involved resolving simple incidents through to highly complex problems of the various technologies, environments and platforms used such as Cisco, Juniper, Checkpoint, Oracle (formally Sun Microsystems), RSA, Bluecoat and Clearswift.

The resolution of incidents and problems could be as simple as reviewing configuration of the various technology products through to full “end-to-end” testing of the operational availability of those devices within the clients IT infrastructure.  The “end-to-end” testing involved detailed review of log files, configuration of routing, traffic flow and firewall rules.

An additional element of this role involved working with project managers, solution architects and designers, industry specific application and database professional teams and various third party vendors to design, capacity plan and evaluate effective solutions to highly complex changes for new projects within the clients’ infrastructure.

The Client Engineer role was created by Verizon Business to offer proactive services to their clients, while simultaneously providing the Site Operations Centre an escalation point for complex technical issues.  Dedicated Client Engineers are part of the account team for a single client, and provide a technical compliment to the Client Executive role.

Further the Client Engineer is seen as the client’s technical advocate. This includes offering regular, unsolicited advice, information and recommendations to key client contacts; the result of which should be a relationship of trust and confidence between Verizon Business and the client.

As a client Engineer for Verizion Business I am dedicated to the Commonwealth Bank of Australia to regularly provide advice and make recommendation for the security and configuration on their various networking, firewalls and application servers both on Sun Solaris and Microsoft Server 2003.

My role at IBM Australia within the UMI Build Team was working on Sun E25K’s frames building, configuring and supporting E25K domains for the Telstra Transformation Project.  The build phase on the project involved liaising with the relevant project managers, development and networking teams to build the domain(s) as per specification.

The builds also included installation and configuration of Solaris 9 and 10 via Jumpstart, and also third party applications of veritas clustered on the domains, EMC Storage Arrays, working with Oracle database Administrators and Networking teams.

A secondary component was supporting existing E25K frames and domains from a BAU perspective.  This involved troubleshooting and providing various break fix solutions for Veritas Clustering and Netbackup, general networking, SAN configuration and generic user based problems such as password resets as well mentor and assist junior UNIX administrators.

I provided support for various accounts, administering firewalls, cache proxies and Solaris Unix servers using a range of security products and providing systems and network administration, diagnosing and resolving  complex networking and connectivity problems.

With the ongoing transformation projects between major accounts I helped project managers and solutions Architects to transform and upgrade the infrastructure.  This included the upgrade of security products from cisco, SUN, Nokia, Checkpoint and Juniper.

The support included providing security to these customers using various technologies including the security products provided by firewall technologies such as Checkpoint Firewall, Cisco, Aventail Appliances, Nokia, Netscreen and Gauntlet.

Further, I used my exceptional communication and verbal skills to enhance proficiency with all my working relationships, team members, internal and external customers, external business partners and other support staff

Further I have built numerous Virus scanners on the RedHat linux 7.3 Operating system using “Trend Micro Inter Scan” product.

My systems administration experience in not limited to these technologies as these products are run on various Operating Systems including Solaris, RedHat Linux and Windows 2000. I commenced employment with Sterling Commerce as a Junior Systems adminstrator where I was responsible for administering both HP and solaris unix systems.

My main duties involve providing user account administration, backup and restore, and printer administration.  Other responsibilites included equipment checking, fault reporting and resolution, keeping printers stocked with consumables and providing technical support to users.

Other duties include the maintaining of Tracking software and Excel spreadsheets with statistical data for the help desk.

I gained work experience in the IT Industry whilst employed with the University of Technology, Sydney, in the Information technology Division. My position encompassed a technical support role for the entire computing network of the University.  I developed a strong background in Sun Solaris UNIX as I was a Support Advisor working in a Systems Administration function. I gained additional skills in problem solving, programming, and network maintenance and general computer systems operations.
