Y Combinator backed startup providing a weekly subscription aerial imagery service (using single-engine aircraft) with overnight turnaround to agricultural customers. As CTO, my duties included all early development and scaling the airborne collection system, image processing pipeline, web delivery interface and hiring/managing the engineering team.- Rapidly integrated aerial image collection systems to evaluate cameras and instruments using multiple camera interfaces (Camera Link, USB, GigE/GenICam, Analog) on COTS PC hardware running Linux with code written in C, C++, and Python. Designed custom PCBs to provide isolation, triggering, and power protection.- Built scalable, parallel Python image processing pipeline to process and deliver thousands of customer images overnight (industry standard is at least one week)- Designed and implemented geographically distributed (in the USA and abroad) infrastructure to allow remote operation and coordination of aerial collection locations from one central office.

The Biorobotics Lab develops biologically-inspired, hyper-redundant mechanisms to solve tough, real-world problems in industrial/nuclear inspection, search and rescue, archaeology, and minimally invasive surgery. My duties were to manage all technical development in the lab as well while taking individual responsibilities in several projects.- Managed development of “Snake Robots” and other robotic projects- Developed hardware (schematic capture, PCB design in Altium and EAGLE, assembly, wiring) andsoftware (firmware and PC in C and Python) and constructed new robots- Demonstrated robots in the field including in archaeological sites in Egypt, search and rescue trainingsites, power plants, and other locations.

Senior Systems and Software Engineer

Medrobotics is a surgical robotics company which develops an FDA-approved snake robot forminimally-invasive access to hard to reach anatomical locations. As the second employee, my dutiesincluded hardware and software development, and clinical testing.- Designed, tested, validated electronics (PCB design, bring-up and troubleshooting, ESD/EMI mitigation, motor control, safety, FMEA) and software (mostly C) to take medical snake robot from university laboratory prototype to safe and successful first human use clinical trials.- Developed motor control, safety, force sensing, and other electronics under rapidly changing electrical, mechanical, and thermal constraints which are now in the commercial, FDA-approveddevice.- Played critical role in groundbreaking trials in both laboratory and hospital settings in the USA and EU.- Improved reliability and frame rate on custom low-latency HD video pipeline by troubleshooting Channel Link interface and other proprietary interfaces and debugging C software running on Linux and Windows.- Wrote proof-of-concept software in C and C++ to demonstrate multiple haptic input devices controlling the robot allowing management to decide on final input device.- Developed requirements and specifications for robot electronics.
