Inspired by the rare character of a 78-year-old senator, who after a 40-year career in politics had the audacity to run for president and challenge every major corporation in the country, I will forever be a Bernie volunteer, and I will continue to work to enact an even more progressive platform into law. I am grateful for his passion, his bravery, and his inspiring efforts to build a better country.

I marched into DC on September 20th alongside Renaldo Pearson and his colleagues from RepresentUs who flew down from Massachusetts to celebrate his tremendous accomplishment. His project, #DEMOCRACY911, started alongside Martin Luther King Jr.'s grave in Atlanta, Georgia, and ended over 740 miles and one million steps later at the steps of the United States Capitol.That day was launched the week-long Youth Climate Strike, a global phenomenon that brought over 10 million people into the streets across 150 countries, and after helping Jerry Nadler off the stage, Renaldo was the last speaker to address the crowd. Having just finished a long walk, we were happy to rest our feet in D.C. over the weekend while we tied up loose ends, and it was there that I connected with Extinction Rebellion's Baltimore chapter. They were finalizing plans for an action on September 23rd, where a coalition of activists under the banner of #ShutDownDC panned to shut down morning rush-hour traffic and bring the city to a standstill to call attention to the climate emergency and demand an appropriate political response.

I joined Renaldo Pearson on his historic 740-mile walk from Atlanta, Georgia to Washington D.C. to raise an alarm against the attacks on our government via corrupt campaign finance laws, attacks on voting rights, and unrepresentative gerrymandering. The walk ended with a sit-in and mass arrest at the Capitol Building. Renaldo started his walk on August 6th and I only heard about his project weeks later when I was still out of the country. As soon as I read about it, I messaged him asking if I could join. I met up with him and his amazing team in Richmond, VA on September 11th.This project, called #democracy911, had three demands:1) PROTECT OUR RIGHT TO VOTEEnd voter purges, pass automatic voter registration, expand early voting, same-day registration, vote at home options, and restore the vote for returning citizens with past felony convictions.2) MAKE ELECTIONS SECURE & COMPETITIVEStop foreign meddling in our elections. End gerrymandering. 1) Transcribed the psychiatrist-patient interviews and collated the new information with previous patients' histories to submit cohesive patient evaluations to the facility's EMR system.2) Accompanied the psychiatrists on their rounds through the Inpatient Mental Health Unit to assess patients' mental statuses and determine eligibility to exit their cells and future steps to be taken.

For this after school program, I would pick kids up from a nearby elementary school when their school had ended and walk them over to our classroom in the library. Before starting class, I would serve each student a meal, and then I would lead them through icebreakers and go through the rest of the lesson with Daria, my co-teacher. We taught them the fundamentals of photography and videography and highlighted interesting examples of what could be done. After 30 minutes of lecturing, we would let them spend the rest of the class practicing and shooting for themselves. For the final project, the class filmed and edited a narrative video on a topic of their choice: music.

After the candidate I canvassed for in my previous campaign lost by only 131 votes, I decided to try again, this time working for a Green Party candidate running in the general election. The odds were heavily stacked against us but we fought on.As campaign manager, I organized our field operations and set up a canvassing strategy designed to reach our goal of 8,000 votes. We collaborated with local allies and activists and built a passionate coalition of campaign volunteers who donated precious time and energy to our campaign. I produced all of the campaign's media content: videos; photos; emails; blog posts; and press releases and led the fundraising efforts. Our campaign ended up raising nearly twice as much money as the other three candidates combined and we received nearly 25 times their combined number of contributions, with an average donation of $35.29.Unfortunately, the winner of the Democratic primary shared the same last name as the previous Councilman, despite being unrelated, and ended up winning the race decisively without running a campaign and knocking on any doors.

During the summer of 2014, I biked from Baltimore to Seattle in a team with 23 other young adults under the 4K for Cancer program, an offshoot of the Ulman Cancer Fund. This was a charity bike ride designed to raise money, spread awareness, and give hope to those in the cancer community, whether they are personally fighting cancer or they have a family member who is fighting it. In the six months leading up to the kickoff, I raised over $6,000 for this charity, which distributes college scholarships to students who are affected by cancer as well as supporting them with care packages and other social services.After raising $6,000, I decided I wanted to create a multimedia project to amplify our team's message of determination, resilience, and hope in the face of obstacles. I wanted to share the philosophy of stoicism while being sensitive to the vast difference in difficulty between biking up a tall mountain and beating cancer. I raised another $3,000 and bought camera equipment to film a documentary of the trip while we biked 4,500 miles across the country. I interviewed teammates as well as some of the gracious hosts who would spoil us with home-cooked potlucks and hot showers as we trickled into their towns. Some of them had overcome cancer themselves, all of them had known somebody who had died to cancer, and while we met as dirty strangers who often smelled awful we often shared beautiful and touching moments where we would let ourselves be vulnerable to the realities of death.
