- Operation and Development of an in-house custom Pulsed Electron Paramagnetic Resonance Spectrometer. Developed MATLAB code for instrumentation control and data analysis.♦ Adapted cryogenic system to function with liquid nitrogen reducing cost of operation for higher temperature experiments.♦ Investigations and elucidation of enzymes involved in cobalamin (Vitamin B12) trafficking. Collaborative project with researchers at the University of Michigan Medical School. ♦ Designed and developed experimental plans to study binding orientations as well local structure determination of cobalamin interaction with intracellular human proteins CblC and CblD.♦ Investigations into the local electronic and geometric structure of human and bacterial Adenosyl-Transferase proteins involved in repair of inactivated cofactor. ♦ Characterization of copper coordination in amyloid beta-fibrils involved in plaque formation during Alzheimer’s. Identified novel tris-histidine coordination environment. - Oversaw execution of research related to project goals for current NSF/NIH funded grant cycle. Generated new project aims and research budget for subsequent funding cycle. Oversaw and maintained over $2 million in scientific instrumentation.♦ Trained and oversaw 20+ visiting and affiliated researchers. Promoted new and existing collaborative efforts across STEM fields, resulting in 2 publications and 2 under revision. ♦ Conducted research facilitating the elucidation of the enzymatic mechanism of Bacillus subtilis Oxalate Decarboxylase. Research led to the development of new enzymatic mechanism for B. sub oxalate decarboxylase based on biophysical characterizations. Research led to 4 publications and 1 in preparation. ♦ Solved the first crystal structure of the active pH structure of B. sub oxalate decarboxylase (in preparation for publication). ♦ Identified superoxide and carbon dioxide anion radical production as a result of enzymatic catalysis via EPR Spin-Trapping and Mass Spectrometry. ♦ Identified REDOX states for metal centers in B. sub OxDC by low temperature X-Band EPR experiments and multi-frequency EPR investigations. Utilized a multi-frequency/field quasi-optical broadband spectrometer at the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (NHMFL). ♦ Designed and developed an immobilization protocol for affinity tagged metalloenzymes for use with low temperature EPR. System is amenable to any protein sample with a His-6X affinity tag and a paramagnetic probe. ♦ Designed and implemented flow cells for the use with real time kinetic measurements. EPR spectrometer was also interfaced with an HPLC for front end separation prior to collection of EPR spectra. ♦ Performed material characterization of semiconductor, polymer films, and multi-nuclear synthetic (inorganic) metallo-complexes utilizing Electron Paramagnetic Resonance. This included design and implementation of in-situ EPR electro- and photo-chemistry experiments.

- Research resulted in 5 publications.♦ Explored the effects of short-range interactions on viscosity of small alkanes in solution. ♦ Models accounted for short-range interactions that occurred between the solute and solvent, which allowed for identification of a reliable value for intrinsic viscosity and mobility. ♦ Through the use of the Bead Method, electrophoretic mobility studies were conducted on small ions in solution, and then extended to incorporate oligopeptides.  ♦ After modeling peptides in many conformations versus mobility the assumption was made that they take a cyclic conformation, as the best correlation was obtained for this data.
