Joi R. Orr, PhD
Joi R. Orr, PhD, is an environmental justice and land rights advocate with 14 years of nonprofit and executive leadership experience. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Ethics and Society from Emory University, a Master of Divinity in Religion from Howard University School of Divinity, and a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy and Comparative Religion from the University of Maryland College Park.
Dr. Orr's research interests include food sovereignty, land trusts, political theology, black religious thought, faith-based social movements, and asset-based community development. She has held various positions in organizations such as Interdenominational Theological Center, Eyewitness Palestine, Emory University, Faith Leaders for Community Change, and People For the American Way, where she has honed her skills and expertise in community development, advocacy, and activism.
In her role as Visiting Assistant Professor and Louisville Institute Postdoctoral Scholar at Interdenominational Theological Center, Dr. Orr has the opportunity to share her knowledge and experience with students and scholars alike. She is a dedicated professional who takes a stand for environmental justice and fights for equitable land rights.
