Dr. Andrew Rynne is a retired Irish surgeon and medical practitioner, notable for his contributions to the field of medicine and his advocacy work in Ireland. Early Life and Education
Born on May 18, 1942, in Prosperous, County Kildare, Rynne comes from a family of writers and scholars. He attended the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland from 1961 to 1968 and later emigrated to Canada, where he completed an internship at Hamilton Civic Hospital.
Career Highlights
Rynne began his medical practice in Ontario before returning to Ireland in 1974 to establish a general practice in Clane. He became involved with the Irish Family Planning Association (IFPA) in 1975 and was known for his civil disobedience regarding contraception laws, notably selling condoms in 1984. His career also included a significant incident in 1990 when he was shot by a former patient, an event that garnered media attention.
