Dr. Douglas Casa, an expert in exertional heat stroke and preventing sudden death in sports, has dedicated his career to advocating for safety in physical activity. His journey began in 1985 when he personally experienced exertional heat stroke during a race, shaping his life's mission. Currently serving as the Chief Executive Officer of the Korey Stringer Institute at the University of Connecticut, Dr. Casa leads initiatives focused on education, advocacy, research, and more to prevent sports-related fatalities. With over 19 years of experience at the University of Connecticut's Department of Kinesiology, he has authored 200+ peer-reviewed publications and delivered 400+ presentations on heat-related illnesses, hydration, and sudden death prevention in sports. Dr. Casa's tireless efforts have resulted in successfully treating over 285 cases of exertional heat stroke without any fatalities. His academic background includes a PhD in Exercise Physiology from the University of Connecticut, an M.S. in Athletic Training from the University of Florida, and a B.S. in Biology from Allegheny College.
