Douglas Burnham

Douglas Burnham is a prominent architect and the principal and founding partner of Envelope Architecture + Design (Envelope A+D), a collaborative design firm based in Oakland, California. With over 25 years of experience in architecture, Burnham has been involved in a diverse range of projects, including residential, educational, commercial, civic, and hospitality designs, as well as exhibition and product design.

He has played a significant role in the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) Architecture + Design Forum, having served as Chair from 2007 to 2010 and currently being a member of the Executive Committee. His leadership in the Forum has focused on enhancing engagement with the design community through innovative programming.124

Burnham is also an educator, having been an adjunct professor at the California College of the Arts since 2004. His academic involvement complements his professional practice, allowing him to influence the next generation of architects.234 Additionally, he founded the nonprofit organization HERE FOR NOW, which is dedicated to creating spaces for temporary art and design interventions.1

His work has been recognized in various publications, and he frequently lectures on architecture and design both in the U.S. and Europe.24
