My main area of focus during my time there was co-leading the largest credit union merger in Canadian history, including receiving a resoundingly successful member vote in favour of the amalgamation of 84%.

The Business of Payments program provides an overview of the changing payment landscape and the trends that are shaping its future. 

The course covers strategic payment topics, with the goal of equipping senior professionals with the insights needed to adapt to the shifting payment landscape and harness the new opportunities it provides. My role in the program was to lead discussions on the financial and business opportunities of payments for Canadian financial institutions.

Canada’s future competitiveness depends on ensuring more boards of directors are comprised of directors who are the most qualified in a greatly-expanded talent pool.  The Council does not support the introduction of quotas in Canada to achieve this goal. CBDC supports a made-in Canada approach: collaboration with the corporate director community, as well as growing the number of member companies, governments, academic institutions, aspiring directors, individual shareholders and institutional investors to speed up the pace of change.

As one of the volunteer CEOs my role was to champion and mentor diverse board candidates.

The president and CEO of a $21 billion financial institution with 52 branches and 545,000 members. Grew retained earnings by over $800 million during combined tenure as CFO and CEO, including a 50% increase in the size of the balance sheet while CEO. Had record levels of employee engagement, customer net promoter scores, and profitability. During CEO tenure became the first credit union in B.C. history to receive provincial approval to become a federal credit union. Had a successful member vote on going federal (80,000 voters and 79% in favour). Moved Coast Capital into the Okanagan Region of B.C. and grew the business there to over $500 million in less than two years, driving significant profits. First credit union in the country to offer Apple Pay, and several other innovations. Increased employee engagement significantly (almost doubled), had a personal leadership index of 92% (based on all employees evaluating).  Elected by peers to sit on the national credit union Board of Directors (CCUA), requested by various Governments to join working groups, panels and to speak as a subject matter expert at multiple conferences.
