Laura Misumi is a labor and employment lawyer with a passion for grassroots organizing and youth work. She graduated from the Northeastern University School of Law with a focus on Labor and Employment Law and has a degree in Liberal Arts and International Relations from the Universidad San Francisco de Quito, as well as a degree in Political Science and Latin American and Caribbean Studies from the University of Michigan. Misumi has worked for various organizations in different capacities, including Managing Director at Detroit Action, Executive Director of Rising Voices of Asian American Families (a project of Engage Michigan) and Michigan Asian American Progressives (a project of Progress Michigan), and Staff Attorney at SEIU Healthcare Michigan. Moreover, she worked as a Workers' Rights Staff Attorney for the Community Development Project at the Urban Justice Center and as a Home Care Law Fellow at SEIU before moving on to the National Teaching Fellowship with Citizen Schools as a Family and Student Engagement Lead.
