    Deren Pulley is a doctoral candidate specializing in medical anthropology at UCSF-Berkeley. His primary research interest lies in critically exploring biomedical and public health knowledge related to chronic illnesses and the influence of social, historical, and cultural contexts on our perception of the body within the research and care sectors. Deren holds a diverse educational background, including a Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) in Health Behavior from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in International Area Studies with a focus on Sustainable Development from Washington University in St. Louis, a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Medical Anthropology from the University of California, San Francisco, and is also trained in Global Health and Development from UCL. Deren has been actively involved in various organizations, having served as a Capstone Team Member in the Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, worked as a Graduate Research Assistant at the same institution, functioned as an Advocacy and Policy Intern at Management Sciences for Health, contributed as a Research & Metrics Intern at Population Services International, served as an Executive Intern at Mary's Center, engaged in international internships at Cross-Cultural Solutions and United Planet, and volunteered at Habitat for Humanity International.
