Derek Young

Derek Young is an inventor and entrepreneur with a diverse background in Mechanical Engineering, Surgical Innovation, and Business Development. He started his career in the automotive industry before transitioning to state-owned companies and then to the medical device startup scene. With over 16 years of experience across various surgical specialties, Derek has been involved in idea generation, fundraising, M&A activities, and establishing strategic partnerships with key players in the industry. He holds numerous patents, publications, and board positions in medical device companies and research groups nationally and internationally. Currently serving as the Head of the Centre of Innovation in Surgical Technology at the RCSI, Derek focuses on taking innovative ideas from conception to commercialization through partnerships with different stakeholders.
