Derek Shelton

Derek Shelton is a seasoned professional with over 40 years of experience in the petroleum industry, specializing in operations, major capital project engineering management, and operational readiness services.

His expertise spans onshore and offshore facilities, LNG and refining installations, with international experience in countries like Angola, Australia, Nigeria, Peru, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, and Venezuela, as well as significant US domestic experience in Alaska, California, and the Gulf of Mexico.

For more than 24 years, Derek has been dedicated to providing operational readiness services to major oil companies, focusing on preparing personnel, equipment, and processes for safe and efficient startups and smooth operations.

He is bilingual in English and Spanish and holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a concentration in International Business & Management Strategy from the University of Southern California, as well as a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Tulsa.

Currently, Derek serves as the Owner & Principal Consultant at AlcuinGroup, leveraging his diverse background and expertise to provide valuable insights and solutions to clients in the petroleum industry.

Throughout his extensive career, Derek Shelton has held various key roles in reputable organizations such as Kizer Energy Inc., Wood, Chevron, Baker Energy, Overseas Technical Services Nigeria Limited (OTS), Lummis Alireza Ltd. Co., The Ralph M. Parsons Company, Occidental, Sun Oil Company (SUNOCO), and Atlantic Richfield Company (ARCO), showcasing his versatility and leadership in the field.
