Derek McGarry

Derek McGarry is an accomplished professional with over 30 years of experience in the field of education, currently serving as Head of Innovation & Engagement and technology transfer officer at the National College of Art & Design (NCAD). He is also a peer-juried member of the NCAD Research Institute, a published researcher, and member of the National Council for Educational Awards Panel of Experts since 2004. Derek has worked in a variety of leadership positions, including former President of the Institute of Designers in Ireland and Board Member of the Crafts Council of Ireland and Rediscovery Centre. At NCAD, Derek's main focus is to generate and manage a diverse portfolio of research and consultancy partnerships, which offer impactful teaching and learning opportunities to clients across multiple industries, such as medtech, digital healthcare, manufacturing, retail and tourism. He also serves as a Coordinator in Bureau+, an inter-disciplinary design studio, which expertly works with external partners such as small businesses and non-profit organizations.
