I teach various courses for both MA-students and BA-students. Courses include: Literature Seminar Maritime History, Paleography, Colonial History. In addition, I'm active in several research projects in both History and Digital Humanities.

As postdoc, I wrote two extensive essays on the historical connections between the major Dutch port city of Rotterdam and the former Dutch colonies.

Postdoctoral Researcher

For my PhD research, I studied the economic effects of the eighteenth-century slave trade on the Dutch island of Walcheren. In addition, I taught several courses.  I successfully defended my PhD-thesis in 2019.

During my time at Rendement, I have written many articles on a wide variety of financial topics. These articles were mainly published in FA Rendement, one of the largest professional journals on finance in the Netherlands. In addition, I have also successfully worked on designing a new online project and looking for business partners to help sustain it.

As a researcher, I did extensive research for the project 'Dutch-Atlantic Connections. The circulation of people, goods and ideas in the Atlantic world, 1680-1795' of Leiden University.In the context of the exciting and burgeoning field of Atlantic history, this project focused on the networks of the Dutch in the early modern Atlantic world.

Rendement is one of the largest publishers of professional journals in the Netherlands. For their various channels, I wrote many articles on topics such as accounting, tax law and payroll administration. These articles targeted financial professionals and entrepreneurs. They appeared both online and in print.

As an agent of the technical helpdesk of KPN, I was the first point of contact for many business owners with malfunctioning communication equipment. Apart from doing the first technical analysis, this also meant dealing with a wide range of customer emotions.

While getting my degree in Business Economics, I decided to apply for a job as tax consultant at PricewaterhouseCoopers. My main task was to take care of the annual corporate tax returns for medium and large sized businesses. Converting commercial annual accounts into their fiscal counterparts improved my insight into accounting enormously.
